2026: The Promise of Synthetic Biology

With widespread adoption in recent years, the benefits of synthetic are hard to ignore. The field now plays an imperative role in boosting healthcare, manufacturing, agritech, environment, and more, bringing up a faster, resilient, and more profitable manufacturing capability in the face of the looming global supply chain crisis.

 

Synthetic biology, defined as the engineering of biological organisms, introduces a rational and systematic way to design and create something useful. The scope of the field itself is difficult to define but has given rise to a wellspring of profit opportunities. It has been said that twenty years from now, everybody will have eaten, worn, used, or been treated with products resulting from synthetic biology manufacturing processes.
