African Swine Fever Virus Degrades Host Protein p300 via MGF505-1R to Enhance Replication

A new study has identified a mechanism by which the African swine fever virus (ASFV) manipulates host cells to promote its own replication. Researchers discovered that the ASFV-encoded MGF505-1R protein targets the host protein p300 for degradation, effectively weakening the host’s defenses.

The research, published in npj Viruses, details how MGF505-1R interacts with p300, a crucial protein involved in regulating gene expression and cellular processes. By inducing the degradation of p300, ASFV disrupts normal cellular functions, creating an environment more conducive to viral replication and contributing to the virus’s pathogenicity. This finding sheds light on the intricate ways in which viruses can subvert host cellular machinery to their advantage.
