A recent study published in JAMA Network Open by researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania reveals significant benefits of using an artificial intelligence (AI) tool during patient visits. The AI, designed to “listen” and transcribe consultations, has markedly reduced the time doctors spend on managing patient notes, allowing for increased face-to-face interactions with patients.

The study highlights that this innovative tool not only minimizes the time healthcare providers spend documenting during consultations but also cuts down on the after-hours review of patient cases, commonly referred to as “pajama time.” This shift is seen as a step forward in enhancing the quality of care and work-life balance for medical professionals.
