The 8th Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo, held from December 5 to 8 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, is the largest healthcare technology event in the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s expo brings together top global technologies and professionals to spotlight 10 major healthcare trends, marking a new chapter for the health industry. The grand opening on December 5 featured inspiring speeches from key leaders, including  Wang Jin-Pyng, founder of the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI), current president of IBMI Wong Chi-Huei, Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei, and Legislative Yuan President Daniel Han, who shared insights on the transformative global impact of smart healthcare.

AI and Smart Tech Take Center Stage: Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo 2024 Opens with Industry Leaders’ Vision

Wong Chi-Huei highlighted Taiwan’s pivotal role in chip production and hardware innovation, emphasizing its integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with healthcare. Additionally, he showcased AI-driven drugs, diagnostic tools, and advanced treatment technologies, positioning Taiwan as a competitive global player. Furthermore, Wong reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to expanding AI applications and fostering international collaborations to lead healthcare technology innovation.

Wang Jin-Pyng reflected on the Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo’s journey from humble beginnings to a globally recognized platform for healthcare advancements. He credited the support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the National Science and Technology Council in driving Taiwan’s progress. Moving forward, Wang called for strengthened international partnerships to fuel breakthroughs and sustain innovation.

Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei emphasized the global priority of investing in AI-powered smart healthcare, recognizing Taiwan’s leadership in AI and ICT. He also praised the expo as a valuable platform for international collaboration, where experts and investors can exchange ideas. In addition, Kuo noted Taiwan’s role in showcasing cutting-edge healthcare solutions, enhancing its global market competitiveness.

Legislative Yuan President Daniel Han urged Taiwan to leverage its strong healthcare sector to enhance its international influence. He pointed to initiatives like Macau’s medical tourism pilot group as a model for expanding Taiwan’s global reach. “Taiwan’s healthcare is too strong, while its diplomacy is too weak,” Han remarked. He called for deeper international collaboration to maximize Taiwan’s contributions to global health.

The 2024 Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo attracted over 600 healthcare institutions and enterprises, featuring more than 2,000 booths. It is expected to draw nearly 30,000 domestic and international professionals and buyers. The event showcased the latest medical technology innovations, fostering international exchange and collaboration.

Leaders from 28 biotechnology and hospital associations across 18 countries attended, including the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, Malaysia, and more. Their participation brought fresh perspectives and created new opportunities for cross-border cooperation in the global healthcare market.

This year, the Expo focused on 10 key healthcare technology trends, including AI, big data, and green energy-saving technologies. AI leads the way, with innovations in personalized medicine, predictive analytics, and healthcare automation. These developments are transforming healthcare systems, improving diagnostics and treatment outcomes, while promoting more sustainable practices.

AI and Innovation Shaping the Future of Healthcare with Precision Medicine and Sustainability

AI leads the top trends, with large language models (LLMs) optimizing treatment pathways and automating medical imaging reports. Additionally, digital twin organ technology uses advanced imaging to simulate organs, driving progress in precision medicine.

Smart diagnostic services and rehabilitation robots highlight a shift toward more human-centered, efficient medical care. Meanwhile, wireless full-monitoring technologies and smart positioning systems provide patients with safer, more convenient healthcare experiences. The expo also showcases AI-assisted diagnostic and treatment technologies, enhancing early disease detection. Finally, green energy-saving medical technologies emphasize the growing importance of sustainability in healthcare.
