April 19, 1929: Microbiologist Marija Alačević Was Born

Marija Alačević (April 19, 1929-February 25, 2015) was a Croatian microbiologist known for her research in genetic engineering in Streptomyces for producing antibiotics. Her work on modifying Streptomyces drastically improved the production of antibiotics, and significantlly made antibiotics more accessible with lower price.
