Asahi Kasei has installed a new forward osmosis–membrane distillation (FO-MD) system at Peptistar’s active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility. This technology aims to reduce the time required for pharmaceutical production by streamlining the concentration process of aqueous solutions.

The FO-MD system utilizes a combination of forward osmosis and membrane distillation to remove water from process streams. By integrating these two processes, the system concentrates pharmaceutical ingredients more efficiently than traditional methods. Peptistar intends to use this installation to improve operational throughput at its manufacturing site. The project marks a practical application of Asahi Kasei’s membrane technology within the pharmaceutical sector, focusing on the technical requirements of large-scale API synthesis.
