Asundexian Reduces Stroke Risk by 26 Percent Without Increasing Major Bleeding Events in Clinical Trials

Bayer’s investigational drug, asundexian, has shown a 26% reduction in the risk of stroke among patients who experienced a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or high-risk transient ischemic attack (TIA. The findings emerged from clinical trials assessing the efficacy and safety of the drug. Notably, asundexian did not lead to an increase in International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) major bleeding events compared to placebo.

The study focused on individuals with non-cardioembolic ischemic strokes or TIAs, conditions associated with significant risk for recurrent strokes. Researchers evaluated asundexian’s ability to prevent subsequent strokes while monitoring its impact on bleeding risks, a common concern with anticoagulant therapies. Results indicated that patients receiving asundexian experienced fewer strokes without an elevated rate of ISTH major bleeding incidents when compared to those given a placebo.
