BIO Asia Pacific fosters innovation and global biotech partnerships, driving advancements in lab and life sciences and ASEAN healthcare.

The 14th edition of the Integration Platform for Technology and Innovation in Asia, which includes Thailand LAB INTERNATIONAL, Bio Asia Pacific, and FutureCHEM INTERNATIONAL, takes place from September 11-13, 2024, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). Spanning over 14,000 square meters of exhibition space, this annual event showcases the latest developments in laboratory sciences, life sciences, and healthcare innovations. Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), it underscores Thailand’s growing influence in science and technology in the region.

Opening Ceremony: Highlighting Science and Diplomacy

The event was inaugurated by several notable figures, including Mr. Permsuk Sutchaphiwat, Permanent Secretary of MHESI, and Mr. Puripan Bunnag. Additionally, Dr. Jittiporn Thammajinda, CEO of TCELS, and Mr. Pongsak Fusiri, President of STTA, were also present. Other dignitaries, including Professor Dr. Somsri Paosawat and H.E. Mr. Remco van Wijngaarden, Ambassador of the Netherlands, attended as well.

Together, they officially opened the event with a ceremony at LAB Square. Afterward, they toured the cutting-edge exhibits, showcasing innovations in laboratory equipment, biotechnology, and healthcare solutions. The walkthrough, moreover, emphasized the event’s focus on fostering collaboration across industries and nations.

Strategic Role in Thailand’s Science and Technology Growth

Since its inception in 2011, Thailand LAB INTERNATIONAL has played a key role in driving investment and growth in the country’s scientific sectors. Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, these events have helped shape Thailand’s strategic focus on developing its science and technology landscape. Mr. Permsuk Sutchaphiwat emphasized, “These shows help to promote science, technology, research, development, and innovation in Thailand to enhance the country’s competitive advantage for economic wealth, social well-being, and environmental wellness.”

These exhibitions provide a unique opportunity for participants to explore new technologies and foster partnerships that fuel research and development. According to Mr. Pongsak Fusiri, President of the STTA, “Over the years, Thailand LAB INTERNATIONAL and Bio Asia Pacific have driven significant investment in laboratory instrumentation, life sciences, and emerging technologies. These events offer a unique platform to exchange insights, showcase cutting-edge innovations, and foster partnerships, stimulating investment that fuels research and product development, and strengthens Thailand’s global competitiveness.”

In addition to the local impact, international collaboration remains a key focus of Bio Asia Pacific 2024. The Taiwan delegation, led by President Shiing-Jer Twu from Taiwan’s Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), participated in advancing biotech collaborations. Taiwan’s involvement in the event further demonstrated its growing role in the biotech sector. On September 11, President Twu, along with Michael Huang, Director of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Promotion Office (BPIPO), held discussions on enhancing bilateral ties between Taiwan and Thailand in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

This engagement included participation in the Taiwan-Thailand Biotechnology Industry Technical Engagement Forum, where Assoc. Prof. Pongsakorn Tantilipikorn from Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and President Twu outlined each country’s biotech landscape. They stressed the importance of cross-border collaboration to drive innovation in global healthcare.

Presentations and Networking Opportunities

A significant part of the Taiwan delegation’s visit was presentations from leading biotech companies. Notably, Bio Preventive Medicine Corp. and Pharmigene showcased advances in precision medicine and genetic research. Meanwhile, their Thai counterparts, such as Baiya Phytopharm Co. and Austrianova, presented innovations in biopharmaceuticals and plant-based vaccines. These presentations, moreover, highlighted the potential for collaboration and knowledge exchange between Taiwan and Thailand.

Additionally, networking was a major theme throughout the event. Dr. Pranit Kitsubun from Thailand’s BIOTEC moderated a panel on Taiwan-Thailand biotech cooperation. Participants discussed regulatory challenges, market access, and each nation’s strengths. The consensus, therefore, was that sustained collaboration would benefit both nations in the global life sciences sector.

Furthermore, the Taiwan delegation held one-on-one meetings with AMATA MEDITOWN to explore future business opportunities. Later, they joined Thai stakeholders at a Welcome Reception and Networking Function at LAB Square. This event further strengthened ties between the two countries’ biotech industries.

Looking to the Future: Strengthening Global Leadership

Day 1 wrapped up with a symbolic gift exchange between President Twu and Michael Huang, organized by VNU Asia Pacific. This gesture reflected the growing relationship between Taiwan and Thailand and their mutual commitment to advancing their biotech sectors. These engagements solidified both countries’ positions as emerging leaders in the global life sciences industry.

As the event progresses, it remains clear that the partnerships and innovations formed at Thailand LAB INTERNATIONAL, Bio Asia Pacific, and FutureCHEM INTERNATIONAL 2024 will have a lasting impact. The collaboration between Taiwan and Thailand serves as a blueprint for fostering international cooperation in science and technology. With thousands of attendees and numerous expert discussions, the event sets the stage for new advancements in biotechnology, healthcare, and life sciences.

Bio Asia Pacific: Shaping Thailand’s Role on the Global Stage

Thailand’s LAB INTERNATIONAL and Bio Asia Pacific continue to serve as vital platforms for innovation, collaboration, and growth in the biotech and life sciences sectors. As the 2024 edition converges, it is evident that the partnerships and ideas generated at the event will propel Thailand’s research and development sectors to new heights. With a strong focus on collaboration—both local and international—Thailand is poised to strengthen its role as a key player in the global life sciences industry, driving future scientific advancements and economic growth.
