The research team monitored the biochemical conversion of vegetable waste to determine how specific additives affect the stability of the system. By introducing buffering agents directly into the reactor, the scientists maintained a more consistent pH level, which prevented the accumulation of volatile fatty acids that typically disrupt microbial activity. Furthermore, the application of enzymatic regulation accelerated the hydrolysis of complex organic compounds, allowing for a more efficient transition between the acidogenic and methanogenic stages of digestion.
