Emerging Gene Editing Technologies and Applications
The virtual ASGCT21 meeting featured a session where scientists presented ongoing research endeavors that focussed on improving existing genome editing technologies. CRISPR is a powerful and multipurpose tool that can edit the genome in more than one way. It can cut specific sequences to inactivate genes, but it can also insert a new sequence after introducing a cut in the genome. These two mechanisms use two different DNA repair mechanisms.
