It stays high on the horizon during the summers and low during the winters. 

Technically, vertical panels get more energy during the winter as the sun is lower in the sky, but when the sun is high in the summer, the same placement can reduce production. How much it hampers production depends on the location. The closer you get to the equator, the less energy is produced as the angle between the sun and the panels decreases. So installation of the panels is key with vertical solar systems.
