**Study Identifies Gender Differences in Newborns’ Response to Prenatal Stress**

Research conducted by scientists at the Edmond and Lily Safra Center of Brain Science reveals that prenatal stress impacts newborns differently based on their sex, with female infants potentially facing heightened emotional and immune challenges. The study, led by Professor Hermona Soreq and Shani Vaknine Treidel, examined molecular-level changes in newborns resulting from maternal stress during pregnancy.

The findings highlight distinct biological responses between male and female babies exposed to prenatal stress. Researchers observed variations in molecular markers linked to emotional regulation and immune system function, suggesting that female infants may be more vulnerable to these effects. The study provides insights into how prenatal environments shape early development and underscores the importance of understanding sex-specific differences in response to maternal stress.
