The COVID-19 pandemic was highly disruptive to the biomedical industry worldwide. As a result, the research and development of new drugs suddenly got much harder, and clinical trials had to be redesigned before execution.

Contrarily, the numerous challenges have also proved beneficial as governments and global biotechs adapted to bring about a boom in new technologies with the help of up-to-date regulation and manufacturing.

It goes without saying that a biotech company must have a nose for demand to seize the opportunity to develop the next product to capture market interest.

GeneOnline recently had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Jerome Shen to glean his insights on Taiwan's biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Shen is the Head of Life Sciences Investments at Taiwania Capital, a venture capital firm. He possesses considerable experience in biotech venture capital and has also assumed leading roles in several multinational biotech startups, where he was responsible for corporate development, strategic initiatives, and planning.
