Insilico Medicine and SK Biopharmaceuticals Announce Up to $2.5 Billion AI Neuroimmune Drug Collaboration

Insilico Medicine and SK Biopharmaceuticals have announced a global research and development collaboration at the BIO 2026 International Convention. They aim at accelerating AI-enabled drug discovery in neuroimmune disorders of the central nervous system (CNS). The agreement, with a total potential value exceeding $2.5 billion. It highlights the accelerating integration of generative artificial intelligence and neuroscience-focused drug development.

AI Platform Drives Neuroimmune CNS Pipeline Expansion

Under the collaboration, Insilico Medicine will apply its proprietary Pharma.AI platform, spanning target validation, generative chemistry, and molecular optimization. This design and optimize novel drug candidates targeting neuroimmune disorders, including neuroinflammatory, neurodegenerative, and rare neurological diseases. SK Biopharmaceuticals will contribute its clinical development and commercialization expertise, supported by its U.S. platform SK Life Science.

The companies emphasized that neuroimmune disorders remain among the most challenging areas in modern medicine. It marked by high unmet medical need and historically low clinical success rates. By combining AI-driven discovery with late-stage CNS development capabilities, the partnership aims to streamline early discovery timelines and improve translational success.

CNS Expansion Strategy and AI-Driven Drug Discovery Synergy

“This collaboration represents an important milestone in expanding our growth beyond epilepsy into new CNS therapeutic areas,” said Donghoon Lee, President and CEO of SK Biopharmaceuticals. He noted that the initiative builds on the company’s established CNS expertise through the development and commercialization of Cenobamate（cenobamate, XCOPRI®）and could serve as a scalable and repeatable growth platform for future programs.

Dr. Alex Zhavoronkov, founder, co-CEO, and CBO of Insilico Medicine said the partnership underscores “the tremendous power of industry communication and collaboration in accelerating progress in healthcare.” He added that combining Insilico’s AI-driven target-to-candidate engine with SK Biopharmaceuticals’ CNS development and commercialization capabilities could unlock both traditional small molecules and novel therapeutic modalities.

Milestone-Driven Agreement Reinforces AI Pharma Momentum

Financial terms include up to $18 million in upfront and near-term milestone payments, with the total deal value potentially exceeding $2.5 billion. It includes development, regulatory, and commercial milestones, plus single-digit royalties on net sales upon commercialization. The agreement represents Insilico Medicine’s largest potential deal to date with an Asia-Pacific partner.

Insilico Medicine also highlighted its AI-driven R&D efficiency. It notes that its platform can reduce preclinical candidate nomination timelines from 2.5–4 years to approximately 12–18 months. It uses only 60–200 synthesized and tested molecules per program. Since 2021, the company has nominated 31 preclinical candidates, 13 of which have received IND approval or clearance.

Insilico continues to expand its AI ecosystem through MMAI Gym, a benchmarking and training environment for scientific AI models. The company noted collaborations with Human Longevity and Liquid AI. It positions the platform as part of its broader vision toward pharma superintelligence.
