Ionis Pharmaceuticals Reports Olezarsen Reduces Triglycerides and Acute Pancreatitis in Late-Stage Trial
Ionis Pharmaceuticals announced that its investigational drug olezarsen, marketed under the name Tryngolza, achieved positive results in a late-stage clinical trial targeting elevated triglyceride levels. The study demonstrated that the drug not only significantly reduced triglyceride levels but also lowered the incidence of acute pancreatitis events in patients. Analysts at BMO Capital Markets noted that these findings could position olezarsen for a strong commercial debut as a first-in-class treatment.
The clinical trial evaluated olezarsen’s efficacy and safety in patients with severely elevated triglycerides, a condition associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular complications and acute pancreatitis. Results showed that the drug met its primary endpoint by achieving substantial reductions in triglyceride levels compared to placebo. Additionally, secondary outcomes revealed a decrease in acute pancreatitis episodes among participants receiving the treatment. These findings highlight olezarsen’s potential dual benefit in addressing both lipid management and related complications.
