June 5, 1983: American Biologist Douglas Hanahan Reinvented Plasmid Transformation of E. coli

American biologist Douglas Hanahan studied the transformation of Escherichia coli with plasmids, and developed a more efficient technique. The result was published in the Journal of Molecular Biology on June 05, 1983, setting up a groundbreaking foundation for the field of genetic engineering.
