Low Testosterone Levels Linked to Higher Risk of General Cancer Mortality

A recent study indicates that men with significantly low testosterone levels face an increased risk of developing both fatal and nonfatal cancers later in life. Researchers observed that men with the lowest testosterone concentrations were 18% more likely to die from cancer compared to those with higher levels, though this correlation did not extend to prostate cancer.

The findings suggest that prostate cancer follows a different biological pattern, showing a stronger association with the levels of two other sex hormones: sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and luteinizing hormone. While the data establishes a statistical link between low testosterone and general cancer mortality, the researchers distinguish these results from the specific hormonal factors that influence prostate cancer development.
