New reproductive health restrictions have not driven OB-GYNs out of states with abortion bans

**Title: OB-GYN Numbers Remain Steady in States with Abortion Bans Following Supreme Court Ruling**

Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in June 2022 to overturn the constitutional right to abortion, 14 states have implemented near-total abortion bans. The ruling, stemming from the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, has also led six additional states to restrict abortions after six to 12 weeks of pregnancy. In several other states, legal challenges and ballot measures continue to shape the landscape of reproductive health laws.

Despite these developments, there is no evidence that obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs) are leaving states with restrictive abortion laws en masse. Concerns about potential impacts on healthcare access arose following the court’s decision; however, data indicates that OB-GYN numbers have remained stable in these regions. Meanwhile, ongoing litigation and legislative efforts in various states could further alter abortion policies in the future.
