New Study Targets Proteins to Proteasome for Degradation, Shows Promise in Overcoming Cancer Treatment Resistance

A new preclinical study has demonstrated a strategy for eliminating proteins that assist tumors in surviving chemotherapy, potentially offering a new approach to combatting cancer treatment resistance. The research introduces a novel mechanism for inducing the degradation of harmful proteins, which could lead to the development of more effective cancer therapies.

The study, published in *Nature Communications*, provides a proof of concept for this new method. Researchers focused on directly targeting proteins to the proteasome, the cell’s protein disposal system, to force their degradation. This approach successfully degraded two cancer-related proteins, suggesting a broader applicability for this strategy in targeting other proteins that contribute to drug resistance in cancer.
