AMATA enhances medical tourism through its Medi Town project, aiming to attract foreign direct investments in pharmaceutical and biotechnology production in Chonburi, Thailand. The first feasibility study project is World Oncology Center which supports a market size of 8.6 million cancer patients across the Greater Mekong Subregion and China.

As the urgency for sustainable practices intensifies globally, AMATA Corporation emerges as a leader in eco-friendly industrial development in Thailand. By implementing its “All-Win Strategy,” AMATA ensures that environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of its operations, aiming to balance profitability with ecological integrity. The company is committed to achieving zero waste discharge across its industrial parks and actively curates its client partnerships, rejecting those that do not share its environmental values. Through innovative initiatives such as advanced water management systems, renewable energy projects, and strategic collaborations, AMATA not only enhances operational efficiency but also sets a high standard for sustainability within the industrial sector. With a clear vision for the future, AMATA’s direction is to pioneer sustainable growth that addresses critical issues in waste management and energy consumption, positioning itself as a model for responsible industrial development in the region.

AMATA’s All-Win Strategy for Sustainability: Profitability Should Not Come at the Expense of Ecological Integrity

AMATA Corporation, a leading industrial estate developer in Thailand, focuses on sustainability with a zero waste discharge goal across its parks. The company screens clients and avoids partnerships with those not aligning with its environmental values. This ensures a sustainable industrial environment while maintaining profitability. In an interview with CBO, Lena Ng highlighted AMATA’s dedication, stating, “From day one, we have to make sure that we have this all-win strategy to be accountable to our clients, our stakeholders, and the environment.” To achieve this, AMATA has implemented innovative water management systems through its subsidiaries. Additionally, it uses advanced technologies to optimize water consumption and comply with regulations. Collaborating with environmental specialists and stakeholders, AMATA sets a regional benchmark by reducing water waste and improving discharge quality.

In addition, AMATA expands its renewable energy initiatives by promoting solar rooftops across its facilities. This approach integrates traditional power generation with renewable sources, creating a mixed energy supply model. As Ng notes, “We are very attractive and very dynamic,” highlighting the company’s readiness to work with international partners. The introduction of smart grid technologies improves energy efficiency and empowers clients with enhanced monitoring capabilities. Furthermore, AMATA is developing a control command center to monitor energy consumption and environmental impact, ensuring that both the company and its clients remain informed about their environmental footprint.

Targeting Zero Waste Discharge; AMATA’s Carbon-Neutral Goals by 2040

Moreover, AMATA’s commitment to sustainability has not gone unnoticed. The company has received one of Thailand’s highest awards for sustainability, recognizing its exemplary management of wastewater discharge and air quality. As Ng remarks, “We have established an approach to make sure that there’s zero waste discharge,” reflecting the company’s proactive measures in environmental responsibility. Looking forward, the company places importance on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which are the main cause of climate change, and has established more ambitious targets towards becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2040, striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 as in comparison to the 2019 base year.

AMATA’s efforts extend beyond operational improvements; they are also deeply committed to community engagement and environmental stewardship. The company has initiated tree planting programs, providing seedlings to factories within its industrial parks. This initiative not only beautifies the surroundings but also contributes to biodiversity and the overall health of the local ecosystem. Visitors to AMATA’s estates will notice a commitment to greenery that sets it apart as one of Thailand’s greenest industrial cities, an achievement that aligns with the nation’s broader sustainability goals. To support these initiatives, the Thai government has established specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for sustainability, which AMATA is actively working to align with.

Moving Beyond Thailand to Increase Its Revenue Stream; Tech Transfer and Sustainability Highlighted

In response to rising costs and land scarcity, AMATA is expanding beyond Thailand to maintain its competitive edge. Ng notes that the company is “moving beyond Thailand and also expanding to new markets like Vietnam or Laos that could lower manufacturing costs.” This strategy stabilizes revenue, with utilities now contributing about 35-40% of its income. AMATA’s first industrial city in Vietnam is already established, with plans to expand further in northern and southern regions.

Additionally, AMATA holds a 200 square-kilometer land concession in Laos. It signed the deal with the Laotian government to launch projects in Namor and Nateuy. “Our vision is to prioritize growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion, but we’re also positioning ourselves to serve international clients and explore innovative projects, such as Taipei Smart City and a potential European smart city in Chonburi, Thailand,” said Ng, outlining AMATA’s global expansion plans.

Moreover, AMATA partners with Taiwanese companies like SinoTech and JIATECH INTERNATIONAL in the Taipei Smart City project in Chonburi. These collaborations integrate advanced technologies into urban infrastructure, improving resource management and promoting sustainable practices. SinoTech contributes smart city master-planning, while Jia Jun Tech focuses on attracting Taiwanese foreign direct investment. Ng concludes, “We are very attractive and very dynamic,” reinforcing AMATA’s readiness to build a smarter, greener future.

Value Chain and Medical Tourism: AMATA’s Strategic Focus on the World Oncology Center

AMATA is making significant strides in catering to the biotech and high-tech industries through its Medi Town project, which is aimed at developing a comprehensive value chain for medical and wellness services. Recognizing the surge in medical tourism post-COVID and Thailand’s strategic location as the heart of Asia, AMATA is seizing the opportunity to position itself as a hub for advanced healthcare. Thailand already attracts millions of medical tourists annually and boasts 71 JCI-accredited hospitals, ranking among the top global destinations for medical services.

The company’s vision includes the development of a World Oncology Center, focusing on specialized cancer treatment and clinical trials. This center will serve not only local patients but also those from nearby regions such as China and the Middle East, where the number of cancer patients is significant. With approximately 8.6 million cancer patients across the Greater Mekong Subregion and China, AMATA sees immense potential for this project. The initiative aims to reduce the cost of medical devices by localizing production, ultimately benefiting patients throughout Asia.

“We believe that by creating a specialized oncology center and localizing the production of medical equipment, we can make healthcare more affordable and accessible for millions of people across the region,” said Ng, highlighting the importance of the project for the future of healthcare in the region.

AMATA’s expansion is supported by a feasibility study funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, which helps pave the way for international collaboration. The company encourages partnerships with international biotech and wellness leaders, particularly from the U.S.A., Japan and Taiwan, to bring innovative healthcare solutions to Thailand.

How AMATA Distinguishes Itself from Competitors

AMATA distinguishes itself from competitors by actively fostering R&D initiatives while enhancing infrastructure in Thailand’s medical biotechnology sector. The company collaborates closely with the Thai government to attract international R&D centers and potential collaboration with the Thai Genome Center to enhance Thailand’s regional competitiveness whereby the Thai Genome Center collects genetic data from around 50,000 individuals in Phase 1.

Such initiative creates a valuable resource for understanding genetic diseases and demonstrates AMATA’s commitment to advancing medical research. Moreover, its industrial park, located just 30 minutes from Thailand international airport, houses approximately 100 companies in the medical and biotech fields, including leading firms like Baxter Pharmaceutical and Nestlé, which has established an R&D center focused on pet food development. As a representative noted, “We provide the venue so that you are closer to the leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies already in our estate, facilitating a robust ecosystem for innovation.

A Vision for Sustainable Growth

AMATA supports Thailand’s major infrastructure projects, including a new airport, seaport upgrades, and a high-speed train connecting Bangkok to Pattaya. These initiatives aim to improve connectivity to AMATA Industrial City, which supports around 200,000 workers, including 6,000 expatriates.

“The high-speed train station will be just 10 minutes from our industrial park by 2028 or 2029,” Ng explains. “This will facilitate further development and collaboration, supported by a comprehensive, accessible transport network.” This improvement promises greater convenience for both blue-collar workers and executives.

Moreover, AMATA Industrial City represents a modern approach to industrial development by prioritizing sustainability. It integrates advanced technologies, implements proactive waste management, and actively engages with the community. AMATA aligns with governmental sustainability goals and commits to innovation, setting a new industry benchmark.

As AMATA expands its green initiatives, it fosters strategic partnerships, emphasizing economic growth alongside ecological stewardship. The company invites businesses to explore collaboration, stressing that a sustainable industrial future is achievable through collective effort and innovation.
