Study Links Maternal Avocado Consumption to Reduced Infant Food Allergies
Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland, in collaboration with the Hass Avocado Board, have investigated the potential connection between maternal avocado consumption during pregnancy and allergic outcomes in infants. The study reports that infants whose mothers consumed avocados while pregnant were 43.6% less likely to develop food allergies by their first birthday.
The findings are based on an analysis of dietary habits during pregnancy and subsequent allergy diagnoses in children within their first year of life. The research highlights avocados as a possible factor influencing early immune system development, though further studies may be needed to explore underlying mechanisms. Researchers collected data on maternal diets and tracked allergy outcomes in infants, focusing specifically on food-related allergic reactions. This study adds to ongoing discussions about how prenatal nutrition may impact long-term health outcomes for children.
