SwRI and St. Mary’s University Partner to Improve Metabolic Cost Predictions Using ENABLE Technology
Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and St. Mary’s University have launched a joint research project to improve the accuracy of metabolic cost predictions during biomechanical evaluations. The collaboration integrates SwRI’s markerless motion capture technology, known as ENABLE™, with musculoskeletal modeling and machine learning to refine how researchers measure the energy expenditure of human movement.
The research team utilizes the ENABLE™ system to track body movements without the need for physical markers, streamlining the data collection process. By applying machine learning algorithms to the resulting musculoskeletal models, the researchers aim to generate more precise estimates of the metabolic energy required for specific physical activities. This project combines SwRI’s technical infrastructure with the academic resources of St. Mary’s University to advance the methodology currently used in biomechanical analysis.
