Vaping Alters Activity in Over 3,000 Genes, With Flavor and Device Type Playing a Key Role

Regular vaping correlates with altered activity in over 3,000 genes, and a significant portion of these changes appears to be linked to vape flavor and device type, according to a new study. Researchers found that while some gene expression changes relate to vaping frequency and intensity, the majority are associated with the specific flavors and devices used.

The study revealed that vaping is associated with altered activity in 3,124 genes across the genome compared to individuals who neither smoke nor vape. Further analysis indicated that 28.8% of these gene expression changes correlated with vaping habits, such as how often or how much a person vapes. However, a larger portion, 66.6%, showed a connection to the specific flavors and devices that participants used.
