At the BIO Asia–Taiwan 2025, GeneOnline visited the pavilions of the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), the Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI), and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)(工業技術研究院, 工研院), conducting exclusive interviews with outstanding teams to uncover the secrets behind their latest technologies:
- Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB)
– CAR-T for solid tumors: Wei-Tian Tai showcased a CAR-T platform where engineered CAR-T cells secrete anti–PD-1 antibodies, helping them resist tumor-induced immunosuppression and better attack PD-L1–expressing solid tumors.
– ARDS therapy: Yung-Ning Yang presented an FPR1 antagonist designed to calm overactive immune responses in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), aiming to restore normal respiratory function.
- Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI)
– Microbial food-texture improvement: Shyue-Tsong Huang described using microorganisms to enhance food texture.
– Low-viscosity food device: Alice Lin introduced a device tailored for aging populations that reduces food viscosity and improves processing of plant-based ingredients.
- Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)
– Long-acting vaccine adjuvant: Wei-Chun Chiu presented a CD40-ligand-based adjuvant that enters dendritic cells and forms a hexamer, extending vaccine protection.
– Tumor exosome detection: Peggy Jiang introduced a technology integrating multi-source data to cut development time in half and identify biomarkers and circulating tumor nucleic acids for early cancer diagnosis.
