November 5, 1892: British Scientist J.B.S. Haldane was Born

J.B.S. Haldane (November 5, 1892 – December 1, 1964) was a British scientist known for research in genetics, evolutionary biology, and in mathematics. Haldane proposed the concept of genetic linkage and the mathmatic formula calculating the crossing-over frequency. He also established centimorgan (cM) as the unit of measuring the level of genetic linkage which became the foundation for quantitative genetics. Haldane was recognized as the pioneer in population genetics. In 1952, Haldane received the Darwin Medal from the Royal Society.
