November 22, 2011: Whole Genome Sequencing of Peach Completed
International Peach Genome Initiative published the genome sequencing result of peach (Prunus persica L.) on BMC Genomics on November 22, 2011. Researchers applied next generation sequencing technologies and bioinformatic scripts to identify high frequency single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) distributed throughout the peach genome, and detected approximately 165,000 SNPs. The identification was a breakthrough for peach selection and breeding.
