December 6, 2011: NHGRI Launched New Funding to Support Research in Genetic Disorders

National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) actively worked on transforming Genome Sequencing Program into medical applications, and launched a four-year, $416 million funding on December 6, 2011. NHGRI aimed the new efforts to find causes of rare inherited diseases and accelerate the use of genome sequence information in the medical care of patients. NHGRI provided $40 million and NHLBI $8 million to fund three centers, including Center for Mendelian Genomics at University of Washington, Center for Mendelian Disorders at Yale University, and Baylor-Johns Hopkins Center for Mendelian Genetics.
