January 10, 1916: Swedish Biochemist Sune Karl Bergström Was Born

Sune Karl Bergström (January 10, 1916 – August 15, 2004) is a Swedish biochemist. Bergström was appointed to the Nobel Foundation Board of Directors in Sweden in 1975, and was awarded the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize from Columbia University together with Bengt I. Samuelsson in the same year. In 1982, Bergström shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Bengt I. Samuelsson and John R. Vane for their research in prostaglandins. In addition, he was the father of the evolutionary geneticist Svante Pääbo.
