May 17, 2013: Dr. Janet Rowley Received Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research

On May 17, 2013, American geneticist Janet Rowley was awarded the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research which was an important indicator of being regarded for the Nobel Prize. Rowley’s award-winning study shown that chronic myeloid leukemia cells have abnormal recombination on it chromosome 22, which in turn produces Bcr-Abl mutant kinases. This study was the foundation of developing the first drug (Imatinib) for targeted therapy in the world.
