June 7, 1811: Scottish Obstetrician James Young Simpson, Baront Was Born

Sir James Young Simpson (June 7, 1811 – May 6, 1870) was a Scottish obstetrician and an important figure in the history of medicine particullary in anesthesiology. Simpson first introduced using chloroform in obstetric anaesthesia. He was one of the British queen’s physicians in 1847 and in 1866 was given the title of baronet.
