November 27, 1964: Scientists Described the Function of Alanine Transfer RNA
American biochemist Robert William Holley report a study describing the function of alanine transfer RNA (tRNA) to the Journal of Biological Chemistry on November 27, 1964. The discovery explained structure which links DNA and the process which messenger RNA (mRNA) trenslates into protein. Joinly with Har Gobind Khorana and Marshall Warren Nirenberg, Holley was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1968.
