Ultrasound Transducer for Combined Histotripsy Breaks Down Cancer Tumors
A team of engineers at the University of Michigan College of Engineering has developed a new non-invasive ultrasound technology called histotripsy, using ultrasound transducers that mechanically destroy liver tumors in mice through ultrasound waves with high precision. The study results showed that ultrasound therapy not only effectively killed 50-75% of cancer cells, but also activated the immune system in mice, reducing the risk of cancer recurrence or metastasis by about 81%.
