Jack W. Szostak (November 9, 1952 – present) is a molecular biologist known for his contribution on genetic study. Szostak and two other scientists, Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider, discovered how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase, and further explained the function of telomeres. Szostak, Blackburn and Greider were then awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for their discovery.
