November 15, 1871: Austrian Agronomist Erich von Tschermak was Born
Erich von Tschermak (November 15, 1871 – October 11, 1962) was an Austrian agronomist, and was the grandson of the famous botanist, Eduard Fenzl, who taught Gregor Mendel botany during his student days in Vienna. In 1900, Tschermak rediscovered Gregor Mendel’s work on genetics, published his findings in June, 1900. Upon the rediscovery Tschermak developed several new disease-resistant crops.
