Another focus of his research is on the structure of genes which carry the code for antibody molecules explaining how the enormous diversity of antibody molecules are formed by a limited number of encoded genes. Leder was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1991, and has been awarded an hononary doctoral degree from the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel in November 2015 affirming his scientific achievements.
