November 28, 2012: Liverpool Scientists Deciphered Wheat Genome
Research team at the University of Liverpool analysed more than 90,000 genes of wheat and deciphered its genetic code. The groundbreaking study was published in the journal, Nature, on November 28, 2012, and was expected to help wheat breeders produce crop that are better able to cope with disease, drought and other stresses that cause crop losses to further address global food shortage.
