December 20, 1958: American Developmental Biologist James Thomson was Born
James Alexander Thomson (December 20, 1958 – present) is a famous American developmental biologist who derived the first human embryonic stem cell line in 1998, and is also one of the pioneering scientists who developed human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) in 2007. His work of human embryonic stem cells drew attention to the regenerative and repairing ability of stem cells.
