December 26, 1978: Scientists Found Human Oncogene c-src
On December 26, 1978, American microbiologist J. Michael Bishop and Harold E. Varmus discovered the first oncogene c-src in human, and published the related research in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) of the USA. Bishop and Varmus were later awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
