December 31, 2015: Researchers First Used CRISPR to Treat a Genetic Disease in Mice
Researchers at the Duke University used CRISPR technology to treat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), and published the report on December 31, 2015 on Science journal. DMD is a genetic disease that can also occur in humans. This was the first case in which CRISPR technology is used to treat inherited diseases in adult mammals and was of great importance to the development of human gene therapy.
