3 March, 1918: American biochemist Arthur Kornberg was born
Arthur Kornberg (3 March, 1918 – 26 October, 2007) was a Jewish American biochemist. In 1956, he isolated the first DNA polymerizing enzyme, now known as DNA polymerase I. He won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1959 with Dr. Severo Ochoa of New York University for their discovery of “the mechanisms in the biological synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)”.
