April 24, 1947: American Biochemist Dr. Roger D. Kornberg Was Born
Roger D. Kornberg (April 24, 1947 – present), an American biochemist, devotes his research career to the study of the molecular basis of eukaryotic transcription. Eukaryotic transcription refers to the process in which the eukaryotic cell’s genetic message is trancripted from DNA to RNA and then transferred to the cytoplasm to produce proteins, and is a process can be found in all eukaryotic cell organisms including human, fungi, plants, and other animals. Kornberg clarified the gene expression of that process of how genetic information from DNA is copied to RNA, and therefore won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006.
