May 4, 2015: Scientists Discovered the Sixth DNA Base
On May 4, 2015, a team at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute in Spain published a paper in the Cell journal, confirming that the DNA N6-methyladenine (6mA) is just like the sixth base of DNA/RNA and has a unique gene regulation and epigenetic function which plays an important role in the cell’s life circle. The discovery indicated an evolutionary conserved mechanism relying on the 6mA, and led to a deeper investigation in this code.
