The research published on Nature Genetics on December 19, 2004 was the first genetic analysis in a national scale. Examining population structure in the relatively homogenous Icelandic gene pool, researchers suggested that allele frequencies still differ notably among subpopulations and sampling strategies need to be considered carefully.
